If at first you don’t succeed, don’t give up! As an entrepreneur you always want to keep the media informed. Let them get to know you. That means creating and sending them press releases when you have news about your organization – a major new equipment purchase or new product, awards and recognition, major achievements, expansion and development plans, events, open houses, and growth. Include them in your mailing lists and e-blasts and newsletter distribution. Your goal is to entice the media to tell your story.
A feature article in a major publication is worth gold. If they don’t respond to your first, or even your second news release, not to worry. Editors and reporters need stories and yours just might be the next one they write about. I recently found out that a small business owner was contacted by a major news outlet for an interview. The editor had not responded to previous press releases from a year ago but was intrigued by a news item in the company’s latest e-blast. That’s the way it goes. Sometimes you just keep planting those seeds until you get a bloom!
